Age 99 and affectionately known to many as "Swaanie", peacefully passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at her home in Saratoga Tower, Morris, Illinois. She was born on May 10, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, to the Herman and Hilda (Smedemann) Rosing.
Zwaantje's life was marked by resilience, grace, and a spirit of generosity that touched the lives of all who knew her. Raised and educated in Chicago, she dedicated most of her life to various bookkeeping and clerical positions, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
As a past tenant president at Saratoga Tower, Zwaantje found joy in bringing people together, organizing resident bus trips, and planning activities that fostered a sense of community among her neighbors. Her passion for crafting was evident to all who knew her, as she delighted in creating holiday ornaments throughout the year, sharing her creations with others and spreading joy wherever she went.
In her leisure time, Swaanie found solace in playing bingo, completing word searches, and immersing herself in the works of Fern Michaels and Debbie Macomber, whose stories captivated her imagination. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of watching the Hallmark Channel and game shows, finding comfort and companionship in the familiar rhythms of television.
Throughout the trials and triumphs of the past century, Zwaantje's giving nature and unwavering determination were a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished by those whose lives she touched, and her legacy of kindness and resilience will endure for generations to come.
Survivors include two sons, Lawrence Cwiok of Morris and Jerome (Lisa) Cwiok of Beecher, Illinois; one grandson, James David Cwiok; one brother, John Rosing of Cary, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.
Swaanie was preceded in death by her parents; one son, James Cwiok, two sisters: Elkena (William) Knight and Margaret (Daniel) Tomano and one brother, Jacob (Chris) Rosing.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of Swaanie’s life is being planned for a later date.
