Age 87 of Morris, passed away Monday February 15, 2010 at Morris Hospital.

Born October 3, 1922 in Morris, Zita was a daughter of the late Walter and Ellen Cahill-Hanley. She was educated at the Gorman School and St. Angela's Academy, graduating with the Class of 1940. She completed Nurses Training at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois and attended Loyola University. On June 22, 1946, Zita married John Halloran in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris. She worked at the Morris Hospital and was an Industrial Nurse for 20 years at the Federal Paper Board Company, Inc. until it's closing in 1980. Zita was Health Care Administrator with the Department of Corrections at the Women's Prison in Dwight, and in 1984 transferred to the Illinois Department of Public Health as a Surveillance Nurse. It was there that she was responsible for inspecting nursing homes for licensure for the State and certification for the Federal Government until her retirement in 1988.

Zita was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice Auxiliary, Morris Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered for various community projects. In 1973, She was selected as the Lion's Club Citizen of the Year and was also named Catholic Woman of the Year.

Zita was an angel on earth, offering comfort, reassurance, kindness and love to so many. Her smile and gentle warmth will live in our hearts.

Her family extends sincere appreciation and thanks to Dr. Cesario Cumba, the Morris Hospital Staff on 2 South and 2 East and the healthcare professionals at both Morris Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Walnut Grove Village. Your kind and loving care will always be remembered.

Survivors include one son James (Peggy) Halloran of Fitchburg, Wisconsin; one grandson Jack; two brothers: Francis (Louise) Hanley of Morris and Bernard Hanley of Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and several nieces and nephews.

Zita was preceded in death by her parents; husband John on December 25, 1991; two brothers: William and Raymond Hanley and their spouses and two sisters: Salena Miller and Loretta Kuhn and their spouses.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 514 East Jackson Street in Morris on Friday February 19, 2010 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM.

Funeral services will follow Saturday February 20th at 12:00 Noon in the Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Arthur Maher and Reverend Richard Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Zita's memory to Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice, 518 West Illinois Avenue, Morris, Illinois 60450
