William M. Pollack
“Bill”
Age 86 of Wilmington, passed away April 30, 2016 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born March 6, 1930 in Wilmington, William Martin was a son of the late Martin and Josephine (Vratanina) Pollack. He was raised in Wilmington; graduated from Wilmington High School with the Class of 1948, and continued on to earn his Associates Degree from Joliet Junior College. On April 8, 1950, Bill married Marion Carver in the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, and later went on to honorably serve in the United States Army. Bill was a Holstein Dairy farmer and grain farmer his entire life. He also sold Crow’s Seed Corn. Bill served on the board of directors for the Will Country Farm Bureau, Will-DuPage Farm Services and the Wilmington Fire Protection District. He was also elected to the Wilmington School Board, where he served for 16 years. Bill enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. He and Marion made many memorable trips both domestic and abroad, and was proud to have toured Route 66. In addition, Bill took great pleasure in flying with his son Bill, and attending high powered model rocketry events with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Marion; three children: Dr. William M. Pollack of Deerfield, David Pollack (fiancé Teresa Brandon) of Wilmington and JoAn (Michael) Ayorinde of Crest Hill; five grandchildren: William M. (Gwen) Pollack, III of Clearwater, Florida, Laurice (William) Strope of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, Brittany Pollack of Wilmington, Elizabeth Pollack of Boston, Massachusetts and Christopher Pollack of Chicago; four great grandchildren: Ashton, Aidan, Logan and Oliver; his sister-in-law LaVonne Pollack of Wilmington and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Diane in infancy; brother Col. Edward Pollack, USA (Ret.); brother Albert in infancy and brothers and sisters-in-law: George (Lucille) Carver and Doris (James) Stollard.
Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 301 North Kankakee Street in Wilmington on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 2:00 p.m. Reverend Winn Alley and Reverend Kay Collins will officiate, and burial with military honors will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
