"Bill"

Age 89 of Coal City, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 29, 2017 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with family at his side.

Born January 13, 1928 in Wilmington, IIlinois, William Robert was a son of the late Alfred Joseph and Mildred Olive (Hundley) Kuriger. He was raised in Wilmington and graduated from the Wilmington Public Schools in 1945. Bill went on to honorably serve in the United States Army, overseas during the Korean Conflict. On June 4, 1950, Bill married Norma Jean Leufken in the Rectory at Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they made their home and raised their family in Coal City. Bill worked at The Joliet Army Ammunition Plant, sold Metropolitan Life Insurance, and retired from UniRoyal in 1986. Bill was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Coal City; served on the board of directors for the Boy Scouts Council; coached little league, and was a member and former board member of the Area #1 Recreation Club. Bill did taxidermy for 30 years, and enjoyed fishing and golf. He was a great woodworker who also enjoyed carpentry; took pleasure in working crossword puzzles, and will be most remembered for his love of family.

Survivors include his wife Norma; three sons: Gary (Debbie) Kuriger of Morris and Mark (Barbara) Kuriger and Scott (Karla) Kuriger, both of Coal City; three grandchildren: Marcie (Mike) Brookman of Joliet, Anthony Kuriger of Morris and Blake Yerkes of Biloxi, Mississippi; one brother James (the late Cona) Kuriger of Joliet; one sister Jeanette (the late Jack) Lewis of Wilmington, and one sister-in-law Lorraine Kuriger of Satellite Beach, Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother Alfred Kuriger, and sister Elizabeth Jean (Joseph) Peterson.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Friday morning, June 2, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Assumption Parish - Berst Center, 150 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen.

Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Pallbearers will be: Gary Kuriger, Mark Kuriger, Scott Kuriger, Marcie Brookman, Anthony Kuriger, Blake Yerkes and Mike Brookman.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Bill’s memory to the Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Honor Squad.
