Age 90 of Coal City, passed away Saturday afternoon March 16, 2013 at Heritage Health in Dwight.

Born August 1, 1922 in Morris, Bill was a son of the late James A. and Margaret Haggerty-Black. He was raised and educated in Morris. Bill was a World War II Veteran and honorably served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1946. He received two campaign medals, as well as the victory medal prior to his discharge. On January 12, 1952 Bill married Mary Cushing in Morris and together they lived most of their married life in Coal City. He was employed by Stone House Electric and was a member of the Electrician's Local. Bill will be remembered as a very social guy who loved race horses and playing the Lotto.

Survivors include his stepson: James (Aldeene) Gale of Wilmington; two grandchildren: Cindy Mansfield of Naperville and Sheri (Steve) Smith of Joliet; four great grandchildren: Alexis and Taylor Mansfield and Brianne and Gavin Smith; one sister Ruth Black and one brother Alan Black.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mary, son William "Billy" Black, one sister: Evelyn Dyson and one brother James Black.

The family will receive friends on Monday March 18, 2013 from 10:00AM until time of funeral service 12:00 Noon at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Deacon Don Dyer will officiate and burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Bill's memory to the Coal City Food Pantry.
