Age 94 of Tinley Park, passed away Friday August 14, 2009 at his home.

Born November 3, 1914 in Palos Twp., William was a son of the late Robert and Edith Gilmore-Doogan. He was raised and educated in the Palos and Frankfort area and was a veteran of the US Army. Bill was the first in the Palos community to be drafted for WWII and served with the 991st Engineers Division that built the pontoon bridges that carried equipment over the Rhine River. He was involved with the Normandy Invasion on D-Day, as well as the Battle of the Bulge. Bill served his Country for 4 1/2 years and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. On August 10, 1946 Bill married Louise Kuipers in Chicago and she survives. A 57 year member of Local 150 Operating Engineers, Bill and his brothers operated Doogan Excavation prior to his retirement in 1981. He was also involved in farming throughout the area. Bill was a member and Elder at Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church, where he excavated the first addition to the church in 1954, and was a former member of Summit Hill School Board. Bill truly loved his wife and family, and cherished the time spent together.

Survivors include his 'darling' wife Louise; six children: Bill (Lynne) Doogan, Sandra (James) Donovan, Daniel (Veva) Doogan and Marla (William) Krippel, all of Frankfort, Louise (James) Vainowski of Mokena and John (Karen) Doogan of Manhattan; Grandchildren: Heath Doogan, Shelley (Kevin) Haas, Dawn (Mike) Olson, Tracy, Terry (Jen), Kevin (Cheryl), Dan (Heidi), Betsy and Drew (fiance, Lucinda) Doogan, Corrie (Terry) Lee, Brian and Steven (Jodi) Krippel, Anna and Amanda Vainowski and Becky, Amy and Emily Doogan; Great Grandchildren: Tanner and Gavin Haas, Ryann Olson, Chayse and Cole Donovan, Allison Donovan, Nathan and Eric Doogan, Payton and Jake Lee and Aidan Murphy; one sister Edith (the late William) Coan of Willow Springs and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; (8) brothers; (2) sisters and two grandchildren: twins, Clifford and Lee Anne Doogan.

The family will receive friends on Sunday August 16, 2009 between the hours of 4-8PM and Monday August 17th from 10AM until time of service 11AM at Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church, 12312 S. 88th Ave., Palos Park, IL 60464. Pastor James R. Tony will officiate and burial with Military Honors will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Frankfort.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Bill's memory to Palos Park Presbyterian Community Church or Providence Hospice, 16300 Louis Ave., South Holland, IL 60473.
