William Harrison Cooper
Age 83 of Diamond, passed away Monday August 5, 2013.
Born October 7, 1929 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, William was a son of the late Charles William and Geneva Meyers-Cooper. He was raised and educated in Chicago Heights and honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Bill continued his education at Roosevelt University, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Labor Law Management. On May 16, 1987, William married Bernice (nee Petreikis) and together they made their homes in Glenwood, Steger, Matteson, Mokena, and most recently Valparaiso, Indiana prior to settling in Diamond. Bill was employed for 37 years at Illinois Bell and retired as a Union Representative. He was a member of the American Legion and Catholic War Vets. In Bill's free time he enjoyed many outdoor activities, which included cross country skiing, swimming and spending time in the sun. He also enjoyed physical training, backgammon and trains.
Survivors include his wife Bernice; two stepsons: Charles E. (Laurie) Hill and David (Monica) Hill; sister-in law Adrienne (Ron) Burich of Miami, Florida; five grandchildren: Brian Hill, Bradley Hill, Sonya (Dan) Koontz, Zachary Hill and Charlie Hill, and four great grandchildren: Kamryn Koontz, Kolby Koontz, Tyler Hill and Cameron Hill, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services with full Military Honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Bill's memory to the Salvation Army.
