Age 91 of Coal City, passed away Tuesday April 15, 2014 at Heritage Health in Dwight.

Born September 6, 1922 in Morris, Wayne is a son of the late Clarence and Bertha Battersby-Roseland. He attended the Morris schools and went on to honorably serve in the United States Navy throughout the Pacific Theater of Operations. On August 2, 1947, Wayne married Lorene Zambon in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they made their home and raised their family in Coal City. Wayne retired from Diamond International / Smurfit Stone Corporation in 1986, after 37 years. He was a member and past president of the United Paper Workers Union, belonged to the American Legion Braidwood Koca Post #39, and was a former member of the Coal City Emergency Squad. Wayne served as a Commissioner of Public Health and Safety and will be remembered for his enjoyment of golf, bowling, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years Lorene; sons: Richard (Jeannie) Roseland, Keith (Vicky) Roseland and Larry (Sandy) Roseland, all of Coal City; six grandchildren: Amy Roseland, Lance Roseland, Adam Roseland, Tim Roseland, Krysten (Todd) Schott and Noah Roseland; one great granddaughter Laityn Schott; his sister-in-law Annette Schock and several nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Clarence Roseland, Jr. and Charles Roseland and twos sisters: Lois Borchelt and Marge Reeve.

Private family services were held on Friday April 18, 2014 at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City, with Reverend Chris Haake from Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Dwight officiating. Inurnment with full military honors followed in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Wayne’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association.
