Age 81, of Morris, Illinois, passed away on January 4, 2025.
A visionary civil engineer and devoted community builder, Warren was born on May 9, 1943, in Tacoma, Washington. Raised in North Dakota, his journey took him from the plains of the Midwest to the heart of Morris—a place he made his home and heart.
Warren's profound and lasting impact on Morris and the surrounding area is woven into the fabric of the community. From his instrumental role in the Grundy Economic Development Council and the Morris Downtown Development Partnership to his leadership with the Grundy County Housing Authority. His most cherished project was the creation of Canal Park—a space that began as a vision and grew into a beloved gathering place, reflecting Warren’s belief in preserving history while fostering growth.
For years, his familiar voice echoed across the airwaves on his local radio show, where he enthusiastically championed community projects and shared stories that united neighbors and brought pride to the town.
Beyond his professional achievements, Warren was an accomplished artist and poet, whose watercolor paintings and published poetry captured the beauty of his travels and life.
Warren is survived by his children Sharon Olson, Sam Annala, Steven Olson, Scott Olson, Robert Olson (Jenna Feela), and Katherine Bonomo (Geoffrey Long); seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Gary (Peggy) Olson and four loving nieces.
Warren’s spirit endures in the lives he touched, the spaces he shaped, and the lasting sense of community he cultivated. His vision and unwavering dedication have left an indelible mark, ensuring that both the people he inspired and the town he cherished will continue to flourish for generations to come.
