Ward Carroll, Jr.
Age 84 of Morris and formerly Ottawa, passed away Friday June 13, 2014 at Park Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Morris.
Born December 2, 1929 in Ottawa, Ward was a son of the late Ward, Sr. and Hazel Jett-Carroll. He was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School and honorably served in the United States Army from February 15, 1952 until being discharged as a Corporal on September 26, 1953. During his tenure in the service Ward earned his Parachute Badge and played the trumpet in the Army Band. He held employment with Libby Owens for 30 years, retiring on October 1, 1986, and also owned and operated Carroll's Automatic Transmissions in Ottawa for 40 years. Ward enjoyed hunting and boating; water and snow skiing, and he played the piano, trumpet and drums. He was a member of the National Rifleman's Association and soon after retirement, was proud to have built his home in Morris.
Survivors include his wife Arlene (nee Watland), whom he married May 4, 1987 in Ottawa; four children: Kim Vacca (John) Muilenburg of Morris; Barb (Larry) Kinzer of Ottawa, Jim (Janette) Carroll of Washington, D.C. and John Carroll of Texas; three grandchildren: Eric Vacca, Jennifer Kinzer and Joseph (Catie) Kinzer, and one sister Virginia Lampman and one brother Bob (Lois) Carroll, both of LaSalle, as well as nieces and nephews.
Ward was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a private family memorial and graveside was held in Evergreen Cemetery in Morris with Gary Watland officiating.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ward's memory to the Morris High School Band Boosters, 1000 Union Street, Morris, Illinois 60450.
