Age 92 of Coal City passed away peacefully on Monday March 17, 2014 at The Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno.

Born February 12, 1922 in Becker County, Minnesota, Wally was the son of the late Erick Alexander and Emma Olson-Halliday. He was raised and educated in Minnesota and honorably served in the United States Navy from 1942-1945. Wally married Rosemary Meyer on September 18, 1947 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Odell and she preceded him in 1998. Wally worked for Local Union # 916 and # 1092 as a carpenter until his retirement at the age of 62 in 1984. He was a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church for many years, the Knights of Columbus and the Coal City VFW. Wally loved the game of Baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He also never missed any of his kid’s games. Wally loved wood working and building, and will be remembered for always being willing to help anyone he could, with any project.

Survivors include four children: Jan (Ron) Berta of Diamond, Mary Lou (Terry McLaughlin) Halliday of Joliet, James (Genie) Halliday of Riverview, FL., and John (Lori) Halliday of Coal City; four grandchildren: Taryn (Brad) Trotter of Coal City, Nicole Halliday of California, Kyle Halliday of Chicago, and Erika Halliday of Florida; two great grandchildren: Braeden Trotter and McKenzie Wright; one sister-in-law: Louise Meyer of Pontiac, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents; wife Rosemary; two brothers: James (Millie) Halliday and Leonard (Alvina) Halliday, and one brother-in-law Bernard Meyer.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Friday March 21, 2014 between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow Saturday morning March 22 nd at 9:30AM in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, where Wally will be laid to rest with his wife Rosemary. Pallbearers will be: Jeff Halliday, Terry Halliday, Jeff Halliday, Jr., Justin Halliday, Kyle Halliday and Eric Tessler.
