Virginia M. Rakes

Age 79 of Morris, passed away Thursday August 25, 2011 at Morris Hospital.

Born September 12, 1931 in Buckley, Washington, Virginia was a daughter of the late John O. and Lillian N. Baumgardner-Woolery. She was raised and educated in Washington State where she later married her husband William McKinley Rakes. Virginia has been a resident of Morris since 1966 and was a member of First Christian Church in Morris. For the past eleven years, she has held employment at Wal-Mart in Morris, where she made many dear friends. Virginia had a passion for gardening and can be remembered as an avid reader. In her free time she truly cherished spending time with her loving dog Merlin.

Virginia is the loving mother of Terry Mathias, John Patrick Rakes and Casey W. Rakes, all of Morris. Several grandchildren also survive including: Sean Rakes and Kerry Couch and siblings: Larry (Theresa) Woolery, Samuel Bruce Woolery, Karen Anne Nagel and John (Annette) Woolery, all of Washington, as well as a host of friends at Wal-Mart.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband William McKinley Rakes on March 5, 1980.

Per Virginia's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and graveside services will be held on Monday August 29, 2011 at 10:00AM in Sample Cemetery in Morris. Gordon Page will officiate.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Virginia's memory to: Grundy County Humane Society, 120 West Fourth Street, Coal City, Illinois 60416.
