Age 89 of Coal City passed away Saturday January 26, 2008 at her home.

Born March 20, 1918 in Ventura, Iowa Viola was a daughter of the late Edward and Rosetta Bartlow-Goist. She was raised and educated in Iowa until moving to Joliet at the age of 13. Viola then attended Joliet Township High School. She was a veteran of the US Women's Army Corp. and on May 18, 1946 married Joseph Gervase in Joliet. Together Ole and Joseph lived their entire married life in Coal City and Joseph preceded Ole in death on November 02, 1980. Ole was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, where she was involved with the New Hope Women's Association, Member of the Coal City V.F.W. Auxiliary , Coal City Senior Citizens and the Mellowdears. Ole was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed reading, crocheting, playing games and spending time with her family and friends, especially her great grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Jodi (Tim) Hanley of Coal City; two grandchildren Paul (Cindy) Hanley of Braceville and Joanna (Doug) Shook of Swiftwater, Pennsylvania and five great grandchildren: Jessica, Samantha and Alexander Hanley and Cameron and Carter Shook, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ole was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, two sisters and one brother.

Visitation and Video Tribute was held on Monday January 28, 2008 from 4:00PM until time of memorial service 6:00PM at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 North Garfield Street (at First Street) in Coal City with Rev. Larry Boutelle officiating

Military Honors and Commital Services will be held on Monday July 21, 2008 at 10:30AM in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Friends wishing to attend the services are requested to meet and gather at the cemetery Welcome Center at 10:15AM.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ole's memory to New Hope Presbyterian Women's Association, 80 N. Garfield Street, Coal City, Illinois 60416 or Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice, 1802 North Division Street, Morris, Illinois 60450.
