Valerie Ann Joyce (Nee Hanson)

Age 53 of Crest Hill, passed away Saturday June 21, 2008 at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago.

Born November 03, 1954 in Joliet, Valerie is a daughter of Merlin "Moo Moo" and the late Rose Ruffatti-Hanson. She was raised and educated in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Graduating Class of 1972. After high school Valerie acquired her Registered Nursing Training from Saint Joseph School of Nursing and later earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Health Science at the University of Saint Francis. Valerie was employed as a Registered Nurse at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for 29 years, having worked in both the Intensive Care Unit and the Cardio Pulmonary Rehabilitation Unit. On October 19, 1991 Valerie married Tedmond Joyce in Hope Lutheran Church in Shorewood, and together they lived in Crest Hill. She was formerly active and involved with Al-Anon and was known for her enjoyment of country crafts and collecting Uncle Sams and Angels. Valerie also loved taking pictures of her family, cross stitching and writing letters.

Survivors include her husband Tedmond Joyce; son Richard, III (Nanci) Susner of Cincinnati, Ohio; her father Merlin "Moo Moo" Hanson; two brothers: Merlin, Jr. "Butch" (Nancy) Hanson and George Hanson and her mother-in-law Helen "Bunny" Joyce, all of Coal City, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Valerie was preceded in death by her mother Rose Ruffatti-Hanson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday June 25th at 10:00AM in the funeral home with Reverend George Klima from Hope Lutheran Church in Shorewood officiating.

Burial will be on Mount Olivet Cemetery in Braidwood.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Valerie's memory to The American Leukemia Society.
