Thelma L. Armentrout
Age 95 of Durham, North Carolina and formerly of Wilmington and Goose Lake, passed away Sunday July 27, 2014 at her home.
Born March 25, 1919 in Chenoa, Illinois, Thelma was a daughter of the late William and LuVella (Schmale) Fasking. She worked at the Joliet Arsenal for 17 years until her retirement and served many years as secretary of the Goose Lake Homeowners Association. Thelma formed the Goose Lake Quilters Club with a friend, and produced about 70 quilts for family and friends. She showed her work both locally and in other states at recognized quilter shows and gatherings. Thelma was also an avid bowler and travelled across the country competing in tournaments.
Survivors include two children: Gene Armentrout of St. Petersburg, Florida and Pat (Bob) Hughes of Durham, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Lori Miller (Ross) of Philadelphia, Mike Armentrout (Denise) of Kansas City, Joe Armentrout (Pam) of Madison, Wisconsin and Doug Hughes and Kevin Hughes, both of Durham; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and one brother William Fasking, of Benton, Arkansas, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; one sister and her husband Eugene "Smoky" Armentrout.
The family will receive friends on Sunday August 3, 2014 from 12:00 Noon until time of funeral service 1:30 p.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Reverend Dr. Roy Backus will officiate, and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
