Age 90 of Darien and formerly Lisle, Gardner and Wilmington, passed away Monday morning September 29, 2014 at Sandwich Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born February 20, 1924 in Chicago, Ted was a son of the late John and Josephine (Noga) Szal. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Euopean, African and Middle Eastern Theaters, earning three bronze battle stars. Ted retired from Poole Brothers Printing, who printed the Chicago Sun Times, Naperville Sun and Downers Grove Reporter newspapers. He was a member of the Wilmington, Lisle and Berwyn VFW Posts, and was an avid golfer and bowler. Ted will be remembered as a dedicated and supportive father who loved his family and took pleasure in driving and taking family trips.

Survivors include three daughters: Judith (Robert) Morrison of Northville, New York and Gayle (Roger) Braffett and Marcia (Gary) Carlson, both of Sycamore, Illinois; one son Ted J. (Debbie) Szal of Gresham, Oregon; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen and two brothers: Anthony and Edward Szal.

Graveside services will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood on Thursday October 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Full military honors will be rendered by the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad and the United States Army. Deacon Milton Leppert will officiate the services. Family and friends wishing to attend the services are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 12:45 p.m.
