"Sue"
Age 75 of Coal City, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Morris Hospital.
Born February 17, 1949 in Joliet, Illinois, Suzanna was a the daughter of Anton and Gladys (Argyle) Togliatti. She was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1967. On November 1, 1969, Sue married John Lee Frederiksen at the Coal City United Methodist Church, and together they would share 55 years of marriage and call Coal City their home.
As a young woman, she operated her own cake baking business out of her home, providing excellent wedding and birthday cakes to all of her customers. Sue later attended Governors State University to complete her Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Education and achieved her Master’s Degree from St. Xavier College. She began her 27-year career as an educator with the Coal City School District in 1991 teaching science. Sue loved opening young children’s minds to the wonders of science, and was particularly proud to sponsor the gardening club at the school to give students hands on experiences. She was a member of the Illinois Science Teachers Association and looked forward to the Illinois Science Teachers Convention every year.
Sue was an active member of the Coal City United Methodist Church and was a part of the Sunshine Circle there. She had a great appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying camping trips to the Coal City Area Club as well as family trips to explore the country, particularly their trip to Yellowstone National Park. Sue took pride in her garden, carefully maintaining her beautiful flowers and cultivating her vegetable garden. She was an avid reader and life-long learner with a passion for history, particularly learning about Abraham Lincoln.
Sue loved being with her family and raising her children, becoming a big fan of the University of Illinois football and basketball after her all her children attended college there. She was a social person with a sharp wit, elevated by her sarcastic nature, which she passed on to her children. Sue undoubtedly was at her best when she was with the people that she knew and loved, celebrating the moments and memories she made with them throughout her life.
