Shirley I. Tibbott
Age 79 of Morris, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday September 6, 2008 at Morris Hospital.
Born August 29, 1929 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Shirley was a daughter of the late David J. and Iona Edwards a�" Thompson. She was raised and educated in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania and was a graduate of Cambria County High School. On August 22, 1947 Shirley married John R. "Jack" Tibbott in Hagerstown, Maryland and together they moved to Morris in 1960, where she lived the remainder of her life. Shirley gained employment at the Morris Herald Newspaper in 1972 and worked in various departments for 23 years until her retirement in July of 1995. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morris and the Morris Women's Club. In her free time Shirley enjoyed nature, especially birds; knitting, working crossword puzzles, reading and music. She was a devoted "Nana" to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and they were truly the center of her life.
Survivors include five children: John R. Tibbott, Jr. of Clearwater, Florida, James R. (Roseann) Tibbott of Morris, Rebecca E. (Ed) Johnson of Pennsville, New Jersey and Jay (Paula) Tibbott and Jeffrey B. Tibbott, both of Morris. Nine grandchildren: Sarah Tibbott, Tim (Jean) Tibbott, Andrew (Erin) Tibbott, Amanda (Tony) Gill, Nathan Johnson, Grace Tibbott, Lily Tibbott, Rose Tibbott and Sophie Tibbott. Seven great grandchildren: Peighton Gill, Natalie Gill, Alaina Gill, Carter Gill, Annie Tibbott, Mattie Tibbott and Cody Tibbott; one brother David (Paulette) Thompson of Indiana, Pennsylvania; one brother-in-law Tom (Jane) Tibbott of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and two sisters-in-law: Carolyn Tibbott of Hornell, New York and Mary Tibbott of Jacksonville, Florida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack (1990) and two brothers in infancy.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday September 10, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block North of Illinois Route 47) in Morris.
Funeral services will then follow on Thursday September 11th at 10:30AM in the First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Jackson Street in Morris. Rev. Steve Sibson will officiate and a private family interment will follow.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Shirley's memory to her family for distribution to various local charities of their choosing.
