Shirley J. Niewinski, 85, of Morris, passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 at Alden Courts of Shorewood with her family by her side.
Born December 10, 1935 in Morris, she was the daughter of Erwin and Marian (Doss) Kettelson. She graduated from Morris Community High School with the class of 1953. On February 15, 1958 she married Henry Niewinski in Morris where they lived all of their married life. She was employed at the Morris Federal Paper Board, served as a Morris crossing guard, worked at Eagles Food, and also Glenn’s Flower Box.
Shirley is survived by her children, Andy Niewinski of Morris, Christine Tomasino of Joliet, Anthony (Kathleen) Niewinski of Morris, Michael (Gail) Niewinski of Morris, Paul (Holly) Niewinski of Colorado Springs, CO, and Matthew (Jill) Niewinski of Dwight; twenty three grandchildren, Sarah (Evan) Koch, Nicole (Noah) Rosenthal, Jake (Abbey) Niewinski, Danny Niewinski, Mike Porche, Michael (Kristin) Tomasino, James Tomasino, Christian Niewinski, Ryan Niewinski, Brandon (Christine) Niewinski, Katrina (Nicholas) Ferry, Cody Niewinski, Blake Niewinski, Morgan (Joel Benitez) Niewinski, Jessica (Kyle) Fisher, Christina Kellogg, Cady (SunWoo Suh) Kellogg, Saybrah Niewinski, Thaysah Niewinski, Miaylah Niewinski, Aesa Niewinski, Oeliyah Niewnski, and Rhaeyah Niewinski; eighteen great grandchildren, Paislee, Lainee, Martin, Analyssia, Slayden, Charleigh, Chloe, Sawyer, Luca, Leo, Bryce, Brooklyn, Brayden, Hayden, Henley, Lincoln, Harper, Santiago, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her loving husband Hank, and one sister Erva Evans.
Shirley was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish.
She enjoyed her walks along the tow path, time spent eating her favorites at the Morris Bakery and Dairy Queen, and preferring to always have dessert first. She loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Memorials in Shirley’s name may be given to the donor’s choice.
Private funeral services will be held Monday, March 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St. in Morris with Fr. Jason Stone officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Due to current restrictions, private interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Due to precautions, the family of Shirley Niewinski understands if you would prefer to pay respect by saying prayers in the safety of your home in lieu of attending a public viewing.
