Shawn M. McLey
Age 48 of Coal City, and formerly of Fremont, Nebraska, passed away suddenly Monday, January 2, 2017 in his home, after a six year battle with diabetes.
Born December 3, 1968 in Fremont, Nebraska, Shawn Michael graduated from Fremont Senior High with the Class of 1986. On August 1, 1998, he married MarySue Ellen Simousek at Wayside Chapel in Palos Park, and together they moved to Coal City in 2006. Shawn was a member of Coal City United Methodist Church; worked for Advanced Carpet Cleaning in Joliet, and previously held employment as a chef and restaurant manager. Shawn loved cooking, grilling and smoking meats. He also enjoyed fishing and work on cars. Shawn was an avid Green Bay Packers fan who loved life, God, his pet Schnauzers, and his family. He was especially proud of his sons.
Survivors include his wife: MarySue McLey of Coal City; two sons: Michael Joseph McLey and Shawn Phillip McLey, both of Coal City; his mother and father-in-law: Cathy and Phillip Muller of Tinley Park; one sister-in-law: Renee Simousek of Madison, Wisconsin, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Shawn was preceded in death by his father: Richard McLey.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Coal City United Methodist Church, 6805 East McArdle Road in Coal City, from 2:00 p.m. until time of funeral service, 4:00 p.m. Reverend Brad Shumaker will officiate.
Green Flameless Cremation Rites will be accorded following the funeral service.
Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Shawn’s memory to the American Diabetes Association or to his family for their distribution.
