Age 96 of Plainfield, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora.

Born March 3, 1919, in Paxton, Illinois, Ruth was a daughter of the late Robert and Nellie Newkirk-Foster. She was raised and educated in Paxton, and went on to marry Charles Edwin Bennett, who preceded her in death on June 17, 1969. Together Charles and Ruth made their home in Wilmington.  Ruth was employed by Cel-Fibe Paper Company in Wilmington for 25 years, and upon the plant closing, she went to work for DeMert & Dougherty in Coal City. In 1974, Ruth married her second husband, Alvin A. Snyder, and together they retired and moved to Kissimmee, Florida.  She was an active volunteer with the Chamber of Commerce, local civic center, the Disney Cast Club and multiple cancer organizations. Ruth belonged to the Plainfield First United Methodist Church, and was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington.  In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed crafts, knitting, playing cards, calling bingo and exercising five mornings a week.

Survivors include three children: Patricia JoAnn (the late Richard) Populorum of Texas, Stephen Foster (Jeanine) Bennett of Wyoming and Jill Marquita (Michael) Clem of Plainfield; eight grandchildren: Keith (Donna) Populorum of Antioch, Vicky Kennedy of Texas, Stephen Foster, Jr. and Tammera (Paul) Herrera, both of Wyoming, Dr. Walter (Jana) Bennett and John Bennett, both of Alabama, Eric Clem of Plainfield and Michelle (David) Bucher of Oswego; twelve great grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren, and one sister: JoAnn (the late Paul) Little of St. Cloud, Florida.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Charles Edwin Bennett in 1969, second husband Alvin A. Snyder in 1994; son Walter Charles (Patricia) Bennett; four brothers: Alan (Lavonne) Foster, Ray (Irene) Foster, Leon (Martha) Foster and Benjamin (Shirley) Foster; and three sisters: Bessie (Noble) Davis, Merna (Lyle) Baught and Dorothy (Arlee) Link.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Pastor Bill Beagle from Plymouth Congregational Church in Plainfield will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ruth’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
