Russell L. Deihs
Age 86 of Wilmington, passed away Sunday September 28, 2014 at Salem Village in Joliet.
Born October 6, 1927 in Elgin, Illinois, Russell was a son of the late John and Leona Deihs. On August 28, 1961 he married the late Gudrun "Judy" (nee Gantner) in Hampshire, Illinois. Russell was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, serving in World War II. Following his military service, he was employed by Mobil and retired in 1991 after more than 25 years of service. Russell was a member of the Moose Lodge in Wilmington, and was known for his love of woodworking and for being a great Chicago Cubs fan. He also enjoyed the fall, and would travel to Washington Island in Door County and Galena to see the leaves change colors. Most of all, Russell will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather.
Survivors include three children: Russell "Rusty" (Rochelle) Deihs, Kathy (Tim) Quigley and Vicky (Tom) Spangler, all of Wilmington; seven grandchildren: Joseph, Ricky, Dylan, Lucas, Summer, Sara and Hailey; two great grandchildren: Rustin and Sylar; four sisters: Ruth Volkening and Shirley Deihs, both of Elgin, Donna Deihs-Young of Saint Louis, Missouri and Patty Leggett of Janesville; two brothers: Gary Deihs of Elgin and Butch Deihs of Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece Anya DePaul.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, beloved wife Judy and two sisters and five brothers: Frannie, Carol, Larry, Johnny, Norm, Bobby and Ronnie.
Cremation rites have been accorded and Russell will be laid to rest with his wife on Monday October 6, 2014 in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Those wishing to attend the services should assemble at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington by 11:15 AM. A procession leaving at 11:30 AM, and services with full military honors will held at 12:00 PM.
Preferred memorials can be made as gifts in Russell's memory to the family for their distribution.
