Rose E. Thorson, 93, of Morris, passed away Wednesday morning, December 16, 2020 at the Gardens at Park Pointe in Morris with her family by her side.
Born May 6, 1927 in Sheridan, she was the daughter of Raymond and Ella (Arneson) Thorson. She graduated from Morris High School with the class of 1945. She married Vernon Mickelson on May 25, 1951 at the West Lisbon Church. He preceded her in death in 1990. Later she married Glenn Thorson on February 7, 1998 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death in 2015. She was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Company and later for 29 years she worked at the Kroger Food Store in Morris, retiring in 1992.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Douglas, deceased) Harseim of Morris; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Frank) Varner and Michelle (Al) Macdonald both of Morris; six great grandchildren, Bryce, Brady and Shaelye Varner, Harper, Lilly and Landon Macdonald; step-daughter, Linda (Donald, deceased) Hansen of Morris; four step grandchildren, Kady (James) Patterson of Morris, Aren (Jessica) Hansen of Morris, Tara (Joshua) Fullmer of Warrenville and Jacob Hansen of Glenview; four step great grandchildren, Kyle and James Patterson, James Donald (J.D.) and Emmett Fullmer; two brothers, Thomas (Donna) Thorson and Roger (Lib) Thorson both of Morris; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her two husbands; her son, Gary Mickelson in 2015; two sisters, Lois Newell and Evelyn Olson.
She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and a former member of the West Lisbon Church.
Rose enjoyed baking, especially her kringlas, loved gardening and enjoyed her Chicago Cubs. To know her was to love her. She was always a happy and friendly person, putting others before herself, especially her family. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of many.
Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Joliet Area Community Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Patrick Lohse and Pastor Steve Larson officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Interment will follow at West Lisbon Cemetery.
