Age 86 of Morris, passed away Friday May 16, 2014 at the home of her son in Bolingbrook.

Born November 30, 1927 in Dwight, Rose Elizabeth was a daughter of the late Hans Einer and Margaret C. Broderick-Christensen. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School, attended Saint Angela Academy for three years, and graduated from Morris Community High School. On February 4, 1950, Betty married Robert L. Smith in Immaculate Conception Church, and together they raised their family in Morris. Betty worked at Kendall Grundy FS as a bookkeeper and later retired from Quality Home Health. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception and the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Betty's life revolved around her family, and in recent years she cherished her faithful dog companion Baby.

Survivors include her children: Reverend Richard L. Smith of Bolingbrook, Deborah (Chris) Gough of DeKalb and David Smith of Morris; six grandchildren: Ali Gough of Chicago, Katie Gough of Los Angeles, Ian Gough, Robert Gough and Kip Gough of DeKalb and Matt Smith of Columbus, Indiana; brother and sisters: Evelyn Roost and Lawrence Christensen, both of Wisconsin, Margaret Ruffatti of Coal City and Patricia Townsend of Dwight, and one brother-in-law Thomas Residori.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert (2008), two grandchildren: Nathan Davis and Shelby Dawn Smith and brothers and sister: Maurice Christensen, Helen Foss, Raymond Christensen and Edward Christensen.

Visitation and video tribute will be held on Tuesday May 20, 2014 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block east of Illinois Route 47) in Morris. Betty will then lie in state Wednesday morning at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 East Jackson Street in Morris from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 10:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Betty's son Reverend Richard L. Smith and Reverend Ed Howe, CR officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris, where Betty will be laid to rest with her husband Robert.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Betty's memory to a charity of the donor's choosing.
