Ronald E. Leonard, Sr.

Age 72 of Godley passed away Wednesday October 15, 2014 at his home.

Born December 2, 1941 in Peoria, Ronald was a son of William, Sr. and Oral (McCown) Leonard. He would attend Dwight High School, and proceeded to enlist in the United States Army. On October 7, 1967, Ronald married Evelyn Decker at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington. He was very involved in local community activities as a former post commander for the American Legion Post #39 a�" Braidwood, commander of the Godley Fire Base and the Emergency Service and Disaster Agency coordinator for Godley. Ronald was also a board member to the Godley Park District, as well as the Godley Village Board and the Godley Water District. He will be remembered for his passion for Chicago sports teams and NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years Evelyn Leonard; three children: Diana (Keith) Iverson of Flanagan, and Dee Ann (Mark Wiggins) Wiborg and Michael Leonard, both of Godley; eight grandchildren: Anthony, Bobby, Andrew, Kristin, Charlotte, Josh, Courtni and Brendan; sister: Beverly (Dan) Willis; brother-in-law: Ellis Schott; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; son: Ronald Leonard, Jr.; two sisters: Bernadine (the late Bill) Huser and Dolores Schott; and one brother: William (the late Jean) Leonard, Jr.

Cremation rites are to be accorded, and a visitation will be held on Sunday October 26, 2014 at the Godley Park District, 500 South Kankakee Street, from 3:00PM until the time of Memorial service at 6:00PM. Ronald's nephew Michael Schott will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at a later date.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ronald's memory to the family for their distribution.
