Ronald Chaney

Age 82 of Wilmington, passed away Saturday afternoon, June 4, 2016 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.

Born July 26, 1933 in Harrisburg, Illinois, Ronald Gene was a son of the late James Robert and Geneva (Quick) Chaney. He was raised and educated in Wilmington and Carrier Mills, Illinois, and graduated from Harrisburg High School with the class of 1951. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, and honorably served during the Korean Conflict. Ron owned and operated Chaney Refrigeration in Wilmington, and formerly served on the Will County Board. He was a member of the A.F. & A.M. Wilmington Lodge #208, American Legion Post #103 in Punta Gorda, Florida, The Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #3296 in Port Charlotte, Florida and the Deep Creek Elks Lodge #2763 in Punta Gorda. Ron was a Chicago Cubs fan, who enjoyed his winters in Florida and spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include his wife Mary; children: Becky (Rick) Hansen, Pam (Mike) VanDuyne, Kathy (Steve) Horwath and Jim (Bev) Chaney, all of Wilmington, Michele Chaney (Eric Suddick) of Gardner and Wayne (Teresa) Holligan of Coal City; (21) grandchildren: Alicia (Bob) Bolser, Curt (Colleen) Hansen, T.J. (Krista) Hansen, Nick (Deanna) Hansen, Michael (Kristin) VanDuyne, Katy (Jamaal) King, Matt Chandler, Chris (Kathryn) Chandler, Steven (Stephanie) Horwath, Mike Horwath, Nicole Winn, Corey Chaney, Bethani (John) Hincherick, Mark (Rachel) Shell, Kaylee Shell (fiancé Kevin Heap), Timothy (Shelby) Eaker, Aleks Karaliunas, Joey Karaliunas, BreAnn (Jeremy) Kaniewski, Alicia Holligan and Cassidy Holligan; (23) great grandchildren: Brock, Carsyn, Olivia, Ella, Mason, Noah, Carter, Kinley, Camden, Caleb, Karlie, Chase, Easton, Markie, Isabel, Aaliyh, Mark, Eli, Andrea, Melia, Cruz, Tallon and Jocelyn; one sister Patty (Orlie, Jr.) Parks of Carrier Mills, Illinois and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Mandy and two twin grandsons: Caden and Connor.

Family and friends will be assembling at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. for a procession to Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, which will depart at 1:30 p.m. Full military honors, as well as graveside services officiated by Reverend Brad Shumaker will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the committal shelter at the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Curt Hansen, Michael VanDuyne, Matt Chandler, Corey Chaney, Joey Karaliunas and Alicia Holligan.
