Roman P. Soprych, Sr.

Age 66 of Wilmington, passed away Wednesday January 30, 2013 at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Born June 27, 1946 in Chicago, Roman was a son of the late Stanley and Ann Krolic-Soprych. He was raised in Chicago and graduated from Saint Rita High School with the Class of 1966. On February 12, 1971, Roman married Mary M. Zimmerman in Chicago and she survives. He was a member of the Wilmington AF&AM Lodge #208 and formerly belonged to the Joliet Moose, Wilmington Moose and Fraternal Order of Police. Roman's employment included 13 years as an officer with the Chicago Police Department in the Special Operations Unit; he was a licensed real estate broker; worked as a master senior appraiser for the Veteran's Administration; served as a veterinarian technician; was a private investigator for a law firm; held the position of professor at Daley College teaching real estate sales and appraisals and owned and operated various business' over the years. Roman's self employment endeavors included: screen printing, food vending, concessions; real estate and appraisal companies, a motorcycle shop and pet sitting service. Roman was also a former union musician and played lead guitar, bass and the banjo. His enjoyments entailed bowling, flat track motorcycle racing, NHRA Drag Racing of which he held winning titles, and BMX racing of which he held #5 in the state. Roman will be remembered for his love of animals and for always having a good time. He truly lived life to the fullest.

Survivors include his wife Mary of Wilmington; son Roman P. Soprych, Jr. of Joliet and one sister Maryann Krueger of Kansas.

Roman was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation with video tribute will be held on Wednesday February 6, 2013 from 4:00PM until time of Masonic Service 7:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. A memorial service will immediate follow Masonic Rites with Reverend Avery Wilson from Coal City First Baptist Church officiating.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Roman's memory to his family for their distribution.
