Robert Thomas Stansberry, Sr.

Age 93 of Morris, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at his home.

Born June 6, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa, Robert Thomas was a son of the late Roland and Ruth (Hyde) Stansberry. He was raised and educated in Des Moines, and went on to gain employment with the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. Bob was drafted in the United States Army on December 7, 1942; and served with the Guadalcanal Campaign with the 1394th Engineer Company on the Solomon Islands. He was honorably discharged on January 7, 1946. On March 15, 1947, Bob married Mildred Myers in Des Moines, and together they moved to Morris, where they established and raised their family. Bob went to work for Self Locking in Morris, where he was the first union president, and retired as a pressman from Diamond International. Throughout the years, Bob continuously worked his land, and will be most remembered for his love of the farm. He was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Morris; belonged to the Morris American Legion Post 294 and was a member of the A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include two daughters: Rose (Mike) Gonnam of Mazon and Nora Stansberry (Doug Lyons) of Morris; his daughter-in-law: Ann Stansberry and son-in-law: John Kleinfeldt, both of Morris; (11) grandchildren: Carrie (Mark) Dumas, Rebecca (Scott) Hallaron, Robert T. Stansberry, III (Perri Erickson), Patty Aardsma, Crissy (Dave) Prasczewicz, David Kenney, Michael Gonnam (Beth Kelly), Jonathan Kleinfeldt (Rebecca Walsh), Sarah (Eric) Fisher, Amie (Scott) Ator and Joshua (Jackie) Brookman; (18) great grandchildren: Alex, Derek, Jacob, Maxwell, Octavio, Logan, Matthew, Devon, Keegan, Molly, Austin, Cameron, James, Andrew, Zachary, William, Lily and Nathanael, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred; son: Robert T. Stansberry, Jr.; daughter: Kathryn Kleinfeldt; brother: Everett Stansberry and sister: Myrtle (Ray) Doss.

Visitation will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Jackson Street in Morris on Saturday, January 9, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 11:00 a.m. Reverend Dr. Roy Backus will officiate and burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Morris, where Robert will be laid to rest with his wife Mildred.

Pallbearers will be: Robert T. Stansberry, III, David Kenney, Michael Gonnam, Jonathan Kleinfeldt, Joshua Brookman and Andrew Brookman.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Robert’s memory to The First Presbyterian Church Foundation, 200 East Jackson Street, Morris, Illinois 60450 or to the family for their distribution to local charities of their choosing.
