Deacon Robert T. Stansberry, Jr.
Age 63 of Morris, passed away Sunday morning September 11, 2011 at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.
Born February 16, 1948 in Morris, Bob is the son of Robert T. Stansberry, Sr. of Morris, and the late Mildred (nee Myers) Stansberry. He was raised in Morris and graduated with the Morris High School Class of 1966. On November 22, 1969, Bob married Ann Walsh in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, and together they lived in Morris their entire married life. Early on Bob's employment included The Morris Paper Mill and he later worked for Reichold Chemical, The Morris Police Department, Akzo Nobel and The Grundy County Home. In 1981, Bob began assisting in youth ministry and led service trips to Kentucky yearly until 2009. It was in 1985 that he completed the Diaconate program with the Catholic Diocese of Joliet and was ordained a Deacon with his home parish of Immaculate Conception in Morris. Bob was currently active at Immaculate Conception Church, serving as a Pastoral Associate since 2004, involved with the Saint Vincent De Paul Society and was recently appointed as sexton of Mount Carmel Cemetery. In the past Bob enjoyed bowling and will be remembered as a Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bears Fan. His biggest hobby however was his grandsons, and he cherished being their "Blue Grampa" and spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years Ann; three children: Carrie (Mark) Dumas of Grant Park, Illinois, Becky (Scott) Hallaron of Rochester, Illinois and Robert T. Stansberry, III of Morris; five grandsons: Alex Dumas, Jacob Dumas, Derek Dumas, Maxwell Hallaron and Octavio Franco; his father Robert T. Stansberry, Sr. of Morris; three sisters: Rose (Mike) Gonnam of Mazon and Kathy (John) Kleinfeldt and Nora Stansberry (Doug Lyons), both of Morris, and one brother-in-law: Bob (Susan) Walsh of Coal City, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Stansberry; mother and father-in-law: Kenneth and Elsie Walsh and one brother-in-law Kenneth "Murphy" Walsh.
The family will receive friends on Friday September 16, 2011 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 514 East Jackson Street in Morris, between the hours of 2:00PM and 8:00PM. Funeral services will follow Saturday September 17th at 10:00AM in the church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Ed Howe, CR officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery and pallbearers will be: Robert T. Stansberry, III, Mark Dumas, Scott Hallaron, Alex Dumas, Jacob Dumas, Derek Dumas, Maxwell Hallaron, Octavio Franco and Christopher Walsh.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Bob's memory to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund or toward the Immaculate Conception Teens Kentucky Service Trips.
