"Bob"

Age 82 of Morris, passed away Friday June 27, 2008 at his home.

Born July 08, 1925 in Isabel, South Dakota, Bob was a son of the late Roger and Mabel (Fjune) Smith. He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater of Operations and his heart was dedicated to his country and to the service of his fellow veterans through the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bob was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet and retired in 1982 as a General Foreman in Inspection after 32 years of service. On February 4, 1950, Bob married Rose E. "Betty" Christensen at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris, and together they lived in Morris their entire married life. Bob was a member and past commander (1988-1990 and 1992-1993) of the John Martin Steele VFW Post 6049, member of the Morris Color Guard, the American Legion, The Loyal Order of the Moose and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Morris. In his free time Bob was an avid golfer, Chicago Cubs Fan and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Betty; three children: Reverend Richard L. Smith of Morris, Deborah (Chris) Gough of DeKalb and David Smith of Morris; six grandchildren: Ali Gough, Katie Gough, Ian Gough, Robert Gough and Kip Gough, all of DeKalb and Matt Smith of Morris and other family, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: Donald (Helen) Smith, Gordon (Bettilee) Smith, Marjorie (Bernard) Roth, Lois Residori, Glenn (Joanne) Smith, Gladys (Mac) McLaughlin and two grandchildren: Nathan Davis and Shelby Dawn Smith.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Monday June 30, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 408 East Washington Street (one block East of Illinois Route 47) in Morris. Funeral services will follow on Tuesday July 1st at 10:00AM in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 516 East Jackson Street in Morris. Bob's son Reverend Richard L. Smith will officiate the services.

Burial with full military honors provided by the Morris Color Guard will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Morris and pallbearers will be: Ali Gough, Katie Gough, Ian Gough, Robert Gough, Kip Gough, Matt Smith and Christopher Pett.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Bob's memory to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Building Fund, 516 East Jackson Street, Morris, Illinois 60450.
