Robert A. Shelton

Age 79 of Coal City, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at his home following a brief illness.

Born March 15, 1936 in Clay City, Illinois, Robert Allen was a son of the late Alonzo and Mildred (Mugrage) Shelton. He was raised and educated in the Clay City and went on to honorably serve in the United States Marine Corps. On February 3, 1970 he married Lydia Jones in Dwight. Robert was retired from the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant, where he served as a fireman.

Survivors include his children: Robert Jason (Jen) Shelton and Amelia Shelton; grandchildren: Miranda Shelton and Justin Kolesar; great grandchildren: Autumn Shelton and Luca Kolesar; one brother Fred (Shirley) Shelton and one sister Frieda (Harold) Taggart, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters: Charlotte and Loita.

Private family services will be held in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, where Robert will be laid to rest with full military honors.
