Robert W. Puckett
Age 90 of Wilmington, Illinois passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at his home.
Born June 2, 1930 in Marion Township, Indiana, Robert was a son of Harry and Elva (Wenzel) Puckett. He was raised and educated in Elizabethtown, Kentucky before joining the US Army in 1947. Robert was known as a ‘Jack of all trades, but master of none’. He held employment with the Joliet Arsenal for a number of years. Robert had been an active member of the First Christian Church in Wilmington since 1971, and also participated in the Senior Citizens Club for which he made several friends. Robert was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years, and he consistanly followed the stock market even into his final days. Riding his bicycle through town was something Robert took great joy in. He will be remembered as the jokester who always had the ability to bring a smile to your face. Robert was a proclaimed ladies man, and was proud of his self made nickname Penny Pinching Puckett.
Survivors include one son, Robert (Pam) Puckett of Mesa AZ; step-children: Mary (James) Walcher and Joan Bailey, both of Wilmington, Gloria Longest and Lavern Longest, both of Goose Lake, Rachael Cletcher of Wilmington, Joy Longest of Tennessee, and Richard Longest and Alan Longest both of Wilmington; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; three brothers: Charles Puckett, Donald Puckett, and Edgar Puckett, all of Kentucky; sister-in law, Josephine Puckett of Kentucky and his special granddaughter, Jessica (Ben) Dietz and their three boys Austin, Dylan, and Ryan.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Margie Johnson; second wife, Arlene Austin, and third wife, Virginia Longest, all of whom he loved wholeheartedly.
Per Robert’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive friends for a memorial visitation at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington on Saturday August 15, 2020 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A private family memorial will be held following the visitation, and Robert will be inurned in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors.
