"Buster"
Age 80 and a lifelong resident of Coal City, passed away peacefully on Friday July 11, 2008 surrounded by his family at home.
Born November 22, 1927 in Coal City, Buster was a son of the late Robert A., Sr. and Ramona Hall-Hill. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Graduating Class of 1945. After graduation, Buster enlisted with the United States Coast Guard and served until being honorably discharged in 1948. On September 05, 1948 Buster married Virginia Vitale in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City and together they lived their entire married life in Coal City. Buster was employed for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet for 34 years, and retired as a line supervisor in October of 1983. After retirement Buster also worked as a shop foreman for Indicom Electric Company in Joliet. He was known to be a great bowler, master gardener and sports fan, who supported the Chicago White Sox, Bulls and Bears. Buster cherished his family and his world revolved around them. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, who was an all around good guy and a hard worker.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years: Virginia; two children: Greg (Kathy) Hill and Claudia (Tom) Powell, both of Coal City; five grandchildren: Lisa Hill of Las Vegas, Nevada, Burgundy (Chuck) Lander of Coal City, Lyndsay (Dennis) Glastetter of Morris, Mona (Paul) Thurston of Chicago and Eric Powell of Coal City; five great grandchildren: Erika Bauermeister, Andrew and Nick Glastetter and Madison and Cameron Lander; one great great grandson Keagin Lowe with another expected in August and two brothers: Ralph (Pat) Hill of Drasco, Arkansas and John (Pat) Hill of Coal City, as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Buster was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Richard "Dickie" Hill in Childhood (1941)
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Monday July 14, 2008 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral Services will follow on Tuesday July 15th at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Richard Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery with acting pallbearers: Dennis Glastetter, Chuck Lander, John Paul Hill, Michael Hill, Eric Powell and Paul Thurston and honorary pallbearers: Lyndsay Glastetter, Mona Thurston, Burgundy Lander, Lisa Bauermeister and Patti Hill.
