Age 87, of Minooka, IL, passed away peacefully at Lightways Hospice on February 7, 2025.
Robert was born on June 18, 1937 to John & Lucille (Govoni) Fonck in Joliet, Illinois and went on to marry Rochelle C. Stricklin on February 9, 1957. They resided in Joliet before building a house in Minooka where they spent the majority of their marriage.
Bob honorably served for eight years in the United States Naval Reserves, exemplifying his lifelong commitment to service. A graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology, his passion for electronics shaped his career, leading him to various roles, including owning and operating Bob’s Electronics before joining Motorola, from where he retired at the age of 62.
A man of many interests, Bob found solace and joy in nature—gardening, hunting, and collecting arrowheads. However, he will be most fondly remembered as an avid HAM radio operator, spending countless hours building and perfecting radios. His dedication to the craft was evident in his involvement with the Joliet Amateur Radio Society (JARS), where he found camaraderie and shared his wealth of knowledge.
Robert is survived by his wife, Rochelle, children, Robert J. (Renee) Fonck II, David N. (Barbara) Fonck, Barbara J. Fonck-Tweet, Raymond E. Fonck (Belinda Grote), June A. (David) Riffel, and Carol L. (David) Musgrave, 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one more expected in April, 2025, sisters, Mary Lou (Bill) Birsa, Rose Vercellotti, and brother, Leo (Sharon) Fonck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Karen Tweet-Steppe, and sister Agnes Botka.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson Street in Morris, IL on February 11, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service, 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Minooka.
