Robert J. Close

Robert J. Close, 63, of Morris, passed away Friday, October 6, 2023 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in the arms of his best friends Shawn and Jim Black.
Born February 18, 1960 in Morris, he was the son of Patrick and Betty (Pfeifer) Close. He graduated from Morris Community High School with the class of 1978. Later he attended Joliet Junior College. For several years he was employed at BP Gas Station 1400 Blvd in Morris.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Close of Streator; one sister, Colleen Sjostrom of Yukon, OK; two nieces; special friends, Jim and Shawn Black.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
He was a grateful member of AA and Bob enjoyed the fellowship of his home group and was always willing to help others in need when called upon. Whether it was calling a friend to say “Hello” or talking to a newcomer about his journey, his wisdom and experience was appreciated by all who knew him.
In his free time Bob enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and fishing the Illinois River in his Ranger boat with his friends. He was an avid LA Laker and Chicago Cubs fan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 16, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick’s Church in Seneca with Fr. Bowan Schmitt officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St. in Morris from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
