Richard Vilt "Hot Shot"

Age 85 of Carbon Hill, passed away Friday May 9, 2014 at his home.

Born February 5, 1929 in Coal City, Hot Shot was a son of the late James and Rose Mlejnek-Vilt. He was raised and educated in Coal City, and honorably served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. On May 8, 1954, Richard married Lorraine Waldron in Indiana. He was a retired pipefitter with Local 597 and will be remembered for his love of fishing, hunting, trapping and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Lorraine; children: Jean Vilt of Morris, Tom Vilt of Colorado and Suzanne (Greg) Bump of Braceville; two sisters: Dorothee (the late Everett) Tjelle of Coal City and Bette (the late Jim) Stutts of Wilmington, one brother Ronald (Janet) Vilt of Wilmington, and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as special friends: LeRoy "Babe" Mihelich, Tim Brehm and Dr. Pete Pullara.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 13, 2014 from 10:00AM until time of memorial service 11:00AM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway in Coal City. Rev. Dr. Thomas Logsdon from the Coal City United Methodist Church will officiate.

A private family inurnment with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at a later date.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Hot Shot's memory to the Coal City United Methodist Church Building Fund, 6805 East McArdle Road, Coal City, Illinois 60416 or Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice, 518 West Illinois Avenue, Morris, Illinois 60450
