Richard M. Planeta
Age 78 and a lifelong resident of Coal City, passed away Sunday December 24, 2006 at Morris Hospital.
Born October 03, 1928 in Coal City, Richard was a son of the late Fred and Anna (Smith) Planeta. He was raised and educated in Coal City and graduated with the Coal City High School Graduating Class of 1946. Richard was a veteran of the US Marines, having served during the Korean Conflict. On February 20, 1971 Richard married Patricia Anderson in the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet. Richard retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet after more than 30 years of service and later worked for Alco in Morris. He was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City. Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching his grandson play basketball and baseball.
Survivors include his wife Patricia; children: Scott Planeta of Chicago, Renee Planeta of Morris, Roxane Planeta of Indiana, Karyn (Tim) O'Hara of Vancouver, British Columbia and Michael Planeta and David Planeta both of Coal City. Grandchildren: Katherine O'Hara, Elizabeth O'Hara, Lori Planeta, Emmitt Planeta, D.J. Trofimchuck, Jason Trofimchuck and Andrew Planeta. Several Great Grandchildren; his mother-in-law Margaret Anderson of Coal City; first wife Carol Planeta-Krueger of Ava, Missouri and one sister-in-law Mary Planeta and one brother-in-law David Anderson, both of Coal City, as well as Tara Robinson and her children Austin and Alexis and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Vickie, twin sons: Drew and Tyler, one brother Eugene Planeta and two step-sisters Viola Brtva and Virginia Brtva.
Visitation and video tribute will be held on Wednesday December 27, 2006 between the hours of 4:00PM and 8:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will then follow on Thursday December 28th at 10:00AM in Assumption Catholic Church in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Rev. Mike Pennock officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
