Richard J. Lohmar
Age 78 of Carbon Hill, passed away unexpectedly on Monday June 22, 2009.
Born December 17, 1930 in Coal City, Richard was a son of the late Walter and Helen Swartz-Lohmar. He was raised and educated in Coal City and was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Class of 1948. Richard was a veteran of both the United States Marines and Air Force. On July 31, 1964 Richard married Thora (nee Jensen) in Morris and together they resided in Carbon Hill. Richard retired from Nicor after 20 years of service. He was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, was a charter member of the Coal City Duck Club, belonged to the Flying Club for Racing Pigeons and was a member of the A.F. & A.M. Masons. Richard was known as a great hunter and fisherman, loved his pigeons and dogs and enjoyed his garden. He also truly loved his family and cherished the time that he spent with them.
Survivors include his wife Thora; five children: Cynthia Jean Born of Schaumburg, Deborah (Dean) Marketti of Coal City, Caroline (Neil) Krull of New Lenox, Robert (Sharon) Uerkwitz of Joliet and Thomas (Peggy) Uerkwitz of Coal City; nine grandchildren: Wayne, Holly, Mike, Molly, Ryan, Kailee, Jamie, Mark and Jack; four great grandchildren: Mylinda, Trevor, Kyle and Charlotte; two sisters: Helen (the late Jerry) Muzzarelli of Coal City and Geraldine (Robert) Durando of Aurora and three sisters-in-law: Alma (Leonard) Kisellus of Deerfield, Nancy (Charles) Akin of Morris and Louise Jensen of Carbon Hill, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law: John Jensen.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Thursday June 25, 2009 between the hours of 4:00PM and 7:00PM at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City.
Richard will then lie in state on Friday June 26th from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 10:00AM at the New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 North Garfield Street in Coal City. Reverend Heidi Johnson will officiate and burial will be in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Dean Marketti, Tom Uerkwitz, Neil Krull, Nick Born, Tom Sayers and Wally Muzzarelli.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Richard's memory to New Hope Presbyterian Church or Unit #1 Education Foundation.
