Age 83 of Braidwood, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 4, 2011.

Richard was born August 1, 1927 in Vincennes, Indiana and was a son of the late Hazel and Ruby Ballard-Lockhart. He served honorably for his county during World War II and the Korean Conflict. First serving with the United States Navy from 1945 a�" 1946 and then with the United states Army from 1948 a�" 1952. Richard was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Braidwood and a member of the Wilmington VFW Post #5422. He retired from Personal Products in 1989 and was also a former employee of the Joliet Arsenal where he worked as a guard.

Survived by his loving wife Phyllis of 39 years; three children Phillip (Carolyn) Lockhart of Round Lake, Scott (Michelle) Lockhart of Braidwood and Anji (Larry) Persico of Montgomery; eight grandchildren: Christopher, Austin, Sarah, Ryan, Kayla Michaela, Nathan and Hunter; one brother William (Rita) Lockhart of Bradenton, Florida; two sisters: Joann Rearden of Henderson, Kentucky and Margie Grant of Dallas, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by two brothers: Robert and Donald Lockhart; two sisters: Bernice Wright and Norma Goldman and one infant sister Maxine Lockhart.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 between the hours of 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 9:30 am in the funeral home with Pastor Avery Wilson and Pastor George Hendricks officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
