Richard John Leonard, Sr.
"Dick"
Age 89 of Wilmington, passed away Monday morning May 21, 2012 at his home.
Born April 28, 1923 in Whiting, Indiana, Richard was a son of the late John Richard and Katherine Kender-Leonard. He was raised and educated in Whiting and honorably served his country in the Army Air Corp during World War II, as well as in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On July 31, 1948, Dick married Imogene Eberly in Saint John's Catholic Church in Whiting and she survives. Dick farmed in Wesley Township, as well as retired as a foreman from Amoco in Whiting after 33 years of service. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed traveling and will be remembered for his love of the outdoors.
Dick is the husband of Imogene; father of: Karen (Tom) Woock of Cook, Minnesota, Pamela (Joe) Fonck of Wilmington, Audrey (Dennis) Koehn of New York Mills, Minnesota and Richard J. (Debra) Leonard, Jr. of Wilmington; grandfather of eleven: Valerie (Russ) Werkmeister, Christopher (Tina) Fonck, Sharon (Mike) Haley, Joe Fonck, Andy Fonck, Cyndi (Jeff) Young, Brian (Lisa) Koehn, Kevin (fiancAC. Emily) Leonard, Patrick (Selena) Leonard, Mark (Wendy) Leonard, Brandi (David) Schlieper; great grandfather of nineteen: Cole, Allison, Cody, Riley, Jake, Jordan, Sean, Declan, Issac, Jason, Justin, Brent, Faith, Payton, Owen, Michael, Evan, Addison and Jonathan; great-great grandfather of Ethan; brother Doris Quandt; brother-in-law of the late Donald (Sandra) Eberly of Indianapolis, Indiana and uncle of Lisa Kappel and Laura Kirwin.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law: Ralph and Edna Eberly.
Visitation and Video Tribute will be held on Wednesday May 23, 2012 between the hours of 5:00PM and 8:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow Thursday May 24th at 10:00AM in the funeral home with Deacon Donald Dyer from Saint Rose Catholic Church officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will be held in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Dick's grandsons will act as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Dick's memory to Joliet Area Community Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Illinois 60431.
