Age 81 of Goose Lake and formerly of Rockdale, Illinois, passed away Sunday evening, April 21, 2024 at Ascension Saint Mary Hospital in Kankakee, Illinois.
Rich's life journey began in Joliet where he graduated from Joliet Catholic High School with the Class of 1960. On October 6, 1962, he exchanged vows with Judy Paracsi at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale. Together they nurtured a loving family and shared many cherished memories.
A dedicated professional, Rich commenced his career at Illinois Bell Telephone Company and later retired from AT&T. Post-retirement, his work ethic remained vibrant as he found fulfillment working at Sam’s Club in Joliet and delivering newspapers for Night Owl News and Pitbull Distribution for over three decades. Rich's passion for social engagement was apparent through his post-retirement activity, and he maintained memberships at the Wilmington Recreation Club and Goose Lake Club. In years past, Rich generously devoted his time to coaching Marycrest little league.
Nature beckoned Rich with its allure, whether it be hunting or fishing, and he always looked forward to the annual family trips to the Northwoods of Wisconsin spanning five decades where they regularly attended Warrens Cranberry Fest. An avid collector of various items, especially Vaseline glassware, Rich also enjoyed antiquing and relished dining out, the Whistle Stop Cafe being one of his favorites. He was always keeping an eye out for bargains, and liked to try his luck with Lotto tickets.
Family held paramount importance to Rich; watching his family tree blossom brought him immeasurable joy. Whether attending his grandchildren’s sports events or engaging in their activities, his familial bonds were unwavering.
Rich leaves behind a treasury of memories cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Survivors include his children: Sue (Ken) Onderisin of Channahon, and Steve (Jacqui) Fenoglio, Shelley "Beany" Fenoglio, and Sheila "Dimples" (Ryan) Bunton all of Coal City; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Onderisin, Matthew (Jamie) Onderisin, Elizabeth "Liz" Fenoglio (Adam Gill), Stephen "Goo" Fenoglio, Garrett Auriene, Madyson "Mady" (Carver) James, and Jack Bunton; great grandchildren: Blake Onderisin, Reece Onderisin, Sawyer Fenoglio and Avery Gill; one sister, Marilyn (the late Don) Eungard of Coal City; nieces and nephews: Pam (Darcy) Rice, Doug (Jill) Eungard and Deb Eungard, and numerous cousins, as well as his lifelong best friend, Dominic Vella of Crest Hill, Illinois.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Fenoglio and one sister in infancy.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service 12:00 p.m.
