"Becky"

Age 74 and a lifelong resident of Gardner, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.

Born November 12, 1940 in Gardner, Rebecca Leigh was a daughter of the late John “Frank” and Josephine (Kroll) Sowers.  She was raised and educated in Gardner, and worked for Sowers Grocery Store in Gardner for many years.  Becky later held employment with Wescom, before going to work at the Fox Developmental Center in Dwight, where she retired as a Mental Health Technician. She was an active member of Braceville United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Gardner American Legion Auxiliary, Gardner Lions Club and the 13 Run Club. Becky enjoyed counter cross stitch needle work, bowled on a league in years past, and took pleasure in playing bingo.

Survivors include one sister Marsha Sowers of Gardner and one sister-in-law Sandy Sowers of South Wilmington, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Becky was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: John, Wayne, Archie and Harold Sowers, and six sisters: Maxine Dite, Betty Huston, Lorraine Brockman, Dorothy Muzzarelli, Jean Treasure and Juanita Marshall.

Visitation will be held on Saturday April 4, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service, 11:00 a.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 203 Liberty Street in Gardner.  Pastor Bennett A. Woods from the Braceville United Methodist Church will officiate, and cremation rites will be accorded following the services.  A private family inurnment will follow at a later date in Braceville-Gardner Cemetery.
