Age 70 of Wilmington Shadow Lakes, and formerly Orland Park, passed away peacefully at home on Monday morning September 14, 2009

Born November 19, 1938 in Blue Island, Ray was a son of the late Ernest and Irene Draeger-Marquardt. He was raised and educated in Blue Island and was a graduate of Blue Island Community High School with the Class of 1957. Ray attended DeVry Institute of Technology, and on on April 11, 1959 married Nancy Bombard in Salem Lutheran Church in Blue Island. Ray was a retired Orland Park Fire Protection District Lieutenant, from where he served for 32 years (1967-1999). He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Orland Park and most recently attended Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Braidwood. Ray's other memberships included: Orland Professional Fire Fighters Local 2754, Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois (AFFI), International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and the Shadow Lakes Fishing Club. Ray was known for his love of Cushman Motor Scooters and Fishing, and he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Nancy; four children: Kimberly (Harold) Solley of Crest Hill, Judith (Ronald) Brown of Braidwood, Ray (Linda) Marquardt of Mokena and Brent (Michelle) Marquardt of Manhattan; nine grandchildren: David James "D.J." (Amber) Slager of Braidwood, Amiejean Slager of Kankakee, Joseph (fiance' Kelly Broucek) Brown, Timothy (Kaitlin Hagberg) Brown and Matthew (Beth Erdman) Brown, all of Braidwood, Jason Marquardt of Mokena, Shane Marquardt of Manhattan, Will Marquardt of Mokena and Molly Marquardt of Manhattan; three great grandchildren: Ethan Slager and Carter Slager, both of Braidwood and Damien Andrade of Kankakee; one brother Norman (Elizabeth) Marquardt of New Lenox and one sister Carol (Robert) Landgraf of Wilmington, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation and Video Tribute will be Wednesday Sept. 16, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Church, 14700 S. 94th Ave. in Orland Park, between the hours of 3:00PM and 9:00PM and on Thursday September 17th from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 10:00AM . Pastor Walter Ledogar will officiate and burial will follow in Christ Lutheran Cemetery.

Preferred memorials in lieu of flowers may be made as gifts in Ray's memory to his family for the establishment of a Fire Fighters Scholarship.
