"Ray"

Age 67 of Wilmington and formerly Chicago, passed away unexpectedly Saturday May 26, 2012 at his home.

Born October 30, 1944 in West Virginia, Ray was a son of the late Robert E. and Ila Shaw-Johnson. He was raised and educated in Chicago and retired from Cameo Container in Chicago. On July 15, 2005, Ray married Diane K. (nee Schmutz) in Chicago and she survives. He was a member of the Canaryville Club.

Survivors include his wife Diane of Wilmington; children: Wesley Johnson, Gail (Austin) Combs, Vicki Johnson and Stacy Johnson, all of Chicago; step-children: Joseph (Sue) Atkins of Elwood and Thomas (Elizabeth) Atkins of Braidwood; numerous grandchildren; four brothers; three sisters; one brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Betsy.

Visitation will be held on Friday June 1, 2012 between the hours of 5:00PM and 8:00PM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Funeral services will follow Saturday June 2nd at 10:00AM in Saint Rose Catholic Church, 624 South Kankakee Street in Wilmington, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Steve Bondi officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wilmington.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Ray's memory to his family for their distribution.
