Ralph Eugene Lopez, Sr.
Age 91 of Coal City, passed away Wednesday, May 01, 2013 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Born September 6, 1921 in Joliet, Ralph was a son of the late Benito and Cleo Saldana-Lopez. He was raised and educated in Joliet and served in the Unites States Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Ralph was a former member of the Cedar Rapids, Iowa VFW, and currently belonged to the Morris VFW John Martin Steele Post 6049. Ralph worked for 31 years as an automatic burner for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet retiring in 1977. After retirement, Ralph worked for Joliet Equipment and other various places as part-time maintenance. Ralph moved to Coal City in the late 1990's and will be remembered for playing basketball, baseball, a little golf and enjoying to dance.
Survivors include his three sons: Roger (Angie) Lopez of Crest Hill, Ralph E. Lopez, Jr. of Wilmington and Mark Lopez of Washington; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, as well as his good friend and caretaker Ruth.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson and one granddaughter.
Burial with full military honors will be Wednesday May 8, 2013 at 2:30PM in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Those wishing to attend the services are asked to meet at the cemetery welcome center by 2:15PM.
