Phillip Sherman Palmer

Age 90 of Wilmington and formerly Toledo, Illinois, passed away Saturday evening January 19, 2013 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Born March 18, 1922 in Flat River Missouri, Phillip was a son of the late Francis Marion and Madgie Myrtle Kennedy-Palmer. He was raised in Missouri and on November 13, 1941, Phillip married Ruby Jackson in Arkansas. Together Phillip and Ruby lived most of their life in Wilmington and Toledo. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local #75, from where he retired after more than 45 years of service. Phillip greatly enjoyed garage sales and auctions. He also loved old cars and had a fondness for working in the yard, gardening and weeding. Phillip will be forever remembered as a 'Hard Working Man'.

Survivors include seven children: Sherman Palmer, Betty (Vern) Findlay and Melvin (Sharon) Palmer, all of Wilmington, Virginia (Randy) Marlow of Missouri, Cissy Webb of Arkansas, Andrew 'Hound Dog' Palmer of Toledo and Phillip 'Hopper' (Mary) Palmer of Wilmington; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; two brothers: Herbert (Barb) Palmer and Francis M. Palmer; one sister Nellie (John) World and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phillip was preceded in death by his parents; wife of more than 70 years: Ruby, on September 29, 2012; two sons: Roy and Larry; two daughters: Bingo and Mary Jo; three brothers; four sisters and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday January 25, 2013 from 9:00AM until time of funeral service 11:00AM at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington. Pastor Raymond Jones from the Church of God will officiate and burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Phillip's grandsons will act as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Phillip's memory to the Church of God, 1200 Sunset Drive, Wilmington, Illinois 60481
