Phillip Holland Elliott

Age 64 of West Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away Monday December 28, 2009 at his home.

Born November 13, 1945 in Pittsfield, Illinois, Phillip was a son of Holland Clifford and Mardelle Bourn-Elliott. Phillip was raised and educated in Morris, Illinois and was a graduate of Morris High School with the Class of 1963. Throughout his life Phil had resided in Morris, Illinois, Joliet, Illinois, Miami, Florida, Dallas, Texas, Ottawa, Ohio and Kenosha, Wisconsin. He furthered his education at Southern Illinois University, where he graduated in 1971 with a Bachelors of Science in Industrial Engineering and later attended Duke University, where he earned a Masters in Business Administration in 1989. Phil was a veteran of the United States, and served in the US Air Force from 1964-1966 and the US Marine Corps from 1967-1969. During his service Phil made 17 rescues off the USS Forcestall, saving 34 Seamen and received the Life Saving Medal, two Purple Hearts and numerous other decorations, medals and awards. He was employed as an Industrial Engineer and worked for Stateville Prison in Joliet for 23 years and the US Federal Department of Prisons for 10 years prior to becoming self employed until his retirement in December of 2007. His memberships included the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Order of the Purple Heart, Veterans Administration Catholic Church at both Hines and Milwuakee, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Ohio, the Moose Lodge and the Eagles.

Survivors include one son: David Elliott of Carbon Hill; one daughter: Susan Andreano of Channahon; five grandchildren: David Elliott, Jr., Hayden Elliott, Peter Andreano, Sydney Andreano, and Nicholas Andreano, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Interment with full military honors will be held on Tuesday January 5, 2009 at 2:30PM in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Phils memory to the Disables American Veterans.
