Peter J. Pantaleone
Age 87 of Coal City, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his home.
Born September 3, 1928 in Coal City, Peter James was a son of the late James Joseph and Madeline (Marietta) Pantaleone. He was a graduate of Coal City High School with the Class of 1946 and honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On May 1, 1954, Pete married Juanita Henke in Assumption Catholic Church, and together they made their home and raised their family in Coal City. Pete's employment began in his late teen years working for Anderson Oil Company in Coal City, which later led to partnerships with Bob Anderson in both Diamond Gas and Dairy Castle in Diamond. Over the years, Pete went on to own and operate Anderson Auto Supply, as well as Sav-Mor Auto Parts in Morris, Comet Auto Supply in Braidwood and Tires Plus in Coal City. He along with Dick Bellettini also owned Sparkle Laundromat in Coal City. Pete was a volunteer fireman and served as a trustee with the Coal City Fire Department for many years. He held his private pilot's license; took great pleasure in flying and enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his wife Juanita; three children: David (Jennifer) Pantaleone of Buffalo Grove, Karen "Liz" (Robert) Broucek of Braidwood and Diane (Randy) Alderson of Coal City; six grandchildren: Matthew (Laura) Pantaleone of Castle Rock, Colorado, Jean Pantaleone of Buffalo Grove, Hollie (Jake) Mallaney of Braidwood, Kellie (Joe) Brown of Diamond, Beth (Keenan) Bigg of Darien and Craig Alderson (fiancé Laura Frendling) of Coal City; five great grandchildren: Nicholas, Alexis, Reese, Ariana and Miles; one sister Joan Ryan and one sister-in-law Joyce Henke both of Coal City, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law: James and June Rose Pantaleone and two brothers-in-law: Harold Ryan and John Henke.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, 2016 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 N. Broadway (one block north of Illinois Route 113) in Coal City. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 245 South Kankakee Street in Coal City, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Reverend Robert Noesen officiating. A funeral luncheon in the Berst Center will immediately follow the services, and burial with full military honors will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Pete's memory to the Assumption Building Campaign, 195 South Kankakee Street, Coal City, Illinois 60416 or to Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice, 518 West Illinois Avenue, Morris, Illinois 60450.
