Peter Richard Buis
Age 90 of Diamond and formerly Oak Forest, was called home to the Lord on Sunday September 30, 2007 at his home.
Born June 04, 1917 in Summit, Illinois, Peter was a son of the late Cornelius Abraham and Katie (Grima) Buis. He was raised and educated in Summit and Blue Island and graduated from Blue Island High School. On August 20, 1941 Peter married Virginia E. Block in Saint Louis, Missouri and together they lived most of their married life in Oak Forest until moving to Diamond August of 2006. Peter was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during World War II from 1941 a�" 1945 in the European Theater of Operations, primarily in Iceland. He was an active and charter member of The Tinley Park Reformed Church and worked as a heavy equipment operator with Local #150 Operating Engineers, from where he retired in 1982 after more than 60 years of service. Peter's life revolved around his church and his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Virginia; daughter Kathy (Jerry) Sidenstick of New Lenox and son Peter (Debi) Buis of Longwood, Florida. Three granddaughters: Geri (John) Kratochvil of Goose Lake, Vicki (Ed) Cantwell of New Lenox and Wendi (Brad) Hauck of Bear, Deleware; two grandsons: Peter Buis of San Diego, California and Andrew Buis of Longwood, Florida; four great granddaughters: Carolynn Kratochvil, Becki Cantwell, Renee Kratochvil and Kaitlin Hauck and three great grandsons: Paul Kratochvil, Ryan Cantwell and Zachary Hauck and two sisters-in-law: Marcella Buis of Crestwood, Illinois and Eva Buis of Manteno, as well as several nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: John Buis and Richard Buis.
The family will receive friends on Thursday October 4, 2007 from 5:00PM until time of funeral service 7:00PM at The Tinley Park Reformed Church, 16530 Ridgeland Avenue in Tinley Park, Illinois. Pastor Mel DeVries will officiate.
Interment with full military honors will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois on Friday October 5th at 10:00AM. Friends wishing to attend the committal service and military honors are requested to meet at the cemetery welcome center at 9:45AM.
Pallbearers will be: Peter Buis, Andrew Buis, Ralph Hoyt, Jim Langland, Peter Grima and Richard Grima.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Peter's memory to the Tinley Park Reformed Church, 16530 Ridgeland Avenue, Tinley Park, Illinois 60477.
