Age 83 of Wilmington, Illinois went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet, Illinois.
Born September 7, 1939 in Evansville, Indiana, Paul John was a son of Paul and Florence (Gayer) Enot. He was raised and educated in Boonville, Indiana and graduated from Boonville High School with the Class of 1957. On September 20, 1958, Paul married Ruth Ann Chambers.
Paul was hired with Caterpillar Tractor Company in 1957, and entered the apprenticeship training program, which he graduated from in 1961. His career spanned with the company for the following 38 years, where he advanced to the Tooling Supervisor and retired in 1995. Paul also held a real estate license for five years.
He was a dedicated member of First Christian Church in Wilmington and belonged to the Wilmington Lodge #208 A.F. & A.M. Paul was a man of many interests and he liked to learn about many things. He enjoyed motorcycles, hunting, fly fishing, telescopes, bonsai, metal detecting, the stock market, woodcarving, and furniture making, just to mention a few. He was also proud to have built two of the family homes.
In addition to his vast hobbies and pleasures, Paul’s love was centered on family, which included his wife and best friend of 64 years, and the three children, eight grandkids and seven great grandkids that he was blessed to have. Family vacations and family related events were always a highlight, and as the family tree grew, nothing gave Paul more pleasure than to have everyone together for holidays and special events. Paul will be remembered as never knowing a stranger. He had a great sense of humor, and leaves behind many a smile from young and old whom he shared a conversation or simply a mint.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Ann; three children: Steven (Diane) Enot of Bull Valley, Illinois, and Kelly (Richard) Neese and Tracy (Al) Zlomie, both of Wilmington; eight grandchildren: Cari (Scott) Boll of Marietta, Georgia, Ryan Enot of Elburn, Illinois, Kyle (Jessica) Enot of White Lake, Michigan, Emma Enot of Bull Valley, Illinois, Richard II (Kristian) Neese and Kristopher (Carley) Neese, both of Wilmington, Jake (Erica) Zlomie of Belgrade, Montana and Madison (Taylor) Hill of Worland, Wyoming; seven great grandchildren: Skyler and Richard Neese III, Jonathon Neese, Daisy and Piper Boll, Zola Zlomie and Wynonna Enot; two sisters: Lynn (Roger) Andrews of Harlingen, Texas and Gwynn Bayes of South Bloomfield, Ohio, and one brother-in-law, Ronald Chambers of Del City, Oklahoma, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, March 27, 2023 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road in Wilmington from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in the funeral home at 12:00 p.m.
Cremation rites will be accorded at the conclusion of the services, and Paul will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery Sunset Addition in Wilmington at a later date.
